What Belongs in an Outbound List Before You Dial
Most outbound campaigns are judged on the calling and lost on the list. A caller with a good list and an average script does fine. A caller with a great script and a list of switchboard numbers attached to companies that closed in 2023 does not, and no amount of dialling fixes it.
Before you dial anything, a row on the list should be able to answer four questions.
The four fields that decide the call
- Who is this company, officially? Legal name, registration number, status, industry code, address. Not the name on the website, the name in the register.
- What number reaches a person? A direct line, not a switchboard that routes to a menu and then to a voicemail box that is full.
- Who should we ask for? A name and a role. A call that asks for "whoever handles bookings" is asking a stranger to do your research for you.
- Why this company, today? One concrete reason. If the reason is "they were in the export", the call has no opening line.
The fourth is the one teams skip, and it is the one the person on the other end notices first. A reason to call is not a pitch. It is the sentence that explains why they, specifically, are hearing from you this morning.
Where the numbers come from
Lists rot in a way that is hard to see. A company changes name, moves address, gets absorbed, or quietly stops trading, and the CSV you bought last quarter says nothing about any of it. Scraped data is worse: it is a snapshot of whatever was on a webpage, with no source to check it against.
Cirel Intelligence builds the list from 13 official national company registries across the Nordics, Europe, the UK and APAC, and verifies direct numbers rather than assuming them. That is a narrower list than a scraper produces and a much more expensive one to argue with, which is the point. There is more on what that guarantee does and does not cover in what registry-verified means.
From there, Victor works the list, gets past reception, has the conversation and books the meeting straight into the calendar. He is only ever as good as the four fields above, which is why they are worth getting right before anyone picks up a phone.
